South Texas Adolescent Health Summit

The 6th Annual South Texas Adolescent Health Summit was hosted on Aug. 23-24, 2023, and offered both in-person and virtual continuing education to more than 125 youth serving professionals from across the Rio Grande Valley. The program consisted of rich content provided by experts in the field and covered topics including Teen Dating Violence, Access to Reproductive Health, Using Inclusive Language, Advocacy, and HIV on the Border. The goal of the Summit was to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities among adults who provide services and support to adolescents on the Texas – Mexico Border about adolescent development, positive youth development, adolescent-friendly services, and how to apply the quality components of care through the stages of adolescence.

In addition, and new this year, the Summit offered a day dedicated to providing teens and young adults with the knowledge and tools to make healthy decisions for their futures. The RGV Teen and Young Adult Summit offered young peoples ages 17-24 information on a range of topics including healthy relationships, STI prevention and accessing healthcare. This day was supported by Talk about it Texas, Campus Conversations.
